DESCRIPTION:ARCTIC SEA ICE – Jackie Richter-Menge\n \nThis presentation will describe the wide-ranging impacts persistent warming temperatures are having on the Arctic environment. Jackie has been doing polar research since 1981\, working with CREEL for 34 years. She is a firsthand witness to the rapid\, climate-related changes taking place in the Arctic\, having led or participated in more than 25 field programs. Her field observations help to better understand the impact of the warming climate on the Arctic environment\, with an emphasis on the sea ice cover.

DESCRIPTION:Cornish and Plainfield:  NHSaves Button Up\, the popular home energy savings workshop series\, is coming to Cornish and Plainfield. The Cornish and Plainfield Energy Committees are presenting this free workshop for residents and it will take place on Tuesday April 16th starting at 6:30 on Zoom. To register and get the zoom link go to https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUqd-qrrzMvGNx0TCAqqgOS43yx70NwIhMG if not redirected to the site click on the link.  The workshop is sponsored by NHSaves and coordinated statewide by the Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI). \n  \nNHSaves is a collaboration of New Hampshire’s electric and natural gas utilities (Eversource\, Liberty Utilities\, NH Electric Cooperative and Unitil). The utilities are working together to provide NH customers with information\, incentives\, and support designed to save energy\, reduce costs\, and protect the NH environment. PAREI of Plymouth\, NH is working with local groups around the state to bring these workshops to the public on behalf of New Hampshire’s utilities. \n  \nThe NHSaves Button Up Workshop is a 1.5 hour plus Q&A presentation about how to improve the energy efficiency of your home. It is conducted by a certified energy auditor and covers basic building science principles as well as examples of whole house weatherization measures that will button up your home for the heating and cooling seasons.  It also covers details about the energy efficiency programs offered by NH utilities (for existing homes and new construction) that provide energy audits\, weatherization measures such as air sealing and insulating and rebates on new technologies and products such as electric and gas appliances and high efficiency electric heating/cooling equipment. \n  \nNH residents wishing to use energy more efficiently\, conserve energy and save money on their heating and cooling bills\, will find the workshop presentation very helpful. The local workshop organizer\, the Cornish and Plainfield Energy Committees said “We are bringing this workshop to our area because it offers valuable and practical information about how to save energy and reduce costs while making our homes more comfortable. The information about available funding can also help make these improvements possible for more people. With the high cost of energy\, efficiency is now more important than ever. DESCRIPTION:***This meeting will take place upstairs in the Cornish Town Offices and is organized by the Historical Society*** \nCORBIN’S ANIMAL GARDEN – Mary Kronenwetter\n \nIn the late 1800s\, Austin Corbin\, from Newport\, built a grand estate and bought out his neighbors’ farms to create a 22\,000 acre wildlife game preserve stocked with boar\, bison\, bighorn sheep\, antelope\, elk\, Chinese pheasant\, and other imported animals. The grounds eventually became a prestigious private hunting park and hosted illustrious guests. This illustrated slideshow features archival images and a discussion of the complicated history and legacy of New Hampshire’s own American Gilded Age robber baron. The talk will also highlight the important legacy of the role the Corbin family and park naturalist Ernest Baynes played in the saving of the American bison from extinction.

Stowell Free Library Trustees will hold a working meeting on Wednesday\, July 24\, at 6:00 pm at the location of the new Cornish Library and Community Center\, 226 NH Route 120\, Cornish\, NH. \nThe purpose of the meeting is to begin the process of certifying that Clause 2 of Warrant Article 6 passed by the town of Cornish at the 2023 town meeting is being fulfilled\, stating: \nThe Selectmen’s acceptance of the deed shall be subject only to the following conditions: \n\n the completed library building is in move-in ready condition\, except for furnishings.\n the renovations are substantially consistent with the preliminary design plans presented at the 2023 town meeting\, or the new building is considered fit for use asa public library and community center.\nThe determinations that Conditions 1 and 2 have been satisfied shall be made by the Library Board of Trustees in consultation with CCI’s architect and the Board of Selectmen.\n\nAgenda \n\nBanwell Architects will present the final plans for the new library.\nThe trustee will ask any questions pertaining to the design’s substantial consistency with the original design.\nThe trustees will develop a plan to consult with the Select Board\n\nPlease note that this is a working meeting with a limited agenda\, and this agenda will be strictly followed. \n
