SUMMARY:Energy Committee Event
DESCRIPTION:FUNDAMENTALS OF ENERGY SMART\, COST CONSCIOUS BUILDING – FOR EXPERTS & BEGINNERS \n\nA talk by Ethan Cole of Earthshare Construction and Ryan Hereth of Geobarns (click for poster) \nBrought to you by the Cornish NH Energy Committee \nTuesday\, December 2 from 7-8:30pm \nVIA ZOOM ONLY \nPre-registration required – LINK \nThis talk will explore: \nWhat makes the most durable\, energy efficient building envelope. \nHow to safely & economically achieve building tightness. \nThe best wall and roof assemblies money can buy. \nVapor barrier vs. air barrier – differences & importance. \nHow best to seal around windows & other framing transitions (wall to roof). \n“Continuous insulation” & the pros and cons of different types of insulation. \nThis is Part II of our Building Science Educational Series.  It dovetails perfectly with the previous talk about how condensation moves inside buildings.  These two experienced green builders will discuss the fundamental principles of high performance energy efficient building\, and how those principles can be applied to weatherizing existing homes. This talk is for builders and homeowners alike. \nPresenters; \nEthan Cole is the Owner/CEO of Earthshare Construction LLC\, based in Lebanon NH\, which since 2011 has been producing high performance buildings\, remodels\, energy retrofits\, and weatherization projects in the greater Upper Valley. Ethan has over 20 years of experience in the trades\, and holds dual Envelope Professional and Building Analyst Professional certifications from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). \nRyan Hereth is the CEO of Geobarns LLC\, a Vermont based company founded by George Abetti\, that has been building barn-style structures in the upper valley since 1992.  In the past ten years Ryan has adapted Geobarns structures into high performance\, durable buildings. Most recently Ryan has worked on comparative building assemblies\, examining the impact & use of natural vs. man-made materials to reduce embodied carbon. \nEmail with any questions. \nThe Cornish Energy Committee does not endorse any particular contractor or product brand.  This event is for educational purposes only

SUMMARY:Energy Committee Online Event
DESCRIPTION:WHERE IS THE WATER DAMAGE ACTUALLY COMING FROM?   \nA TALK ABOUT THE MECHANICS OF CONDENSATION IN HOMES \nBY NATE GUSAKOV \nThursday\, November 13\, 2025 from 7-8:30pm \nVia Zoom only  \nPresented by the Cornish NH Energy Committee \nPre-registration required: Click Here \nPlease join us for this very interesting talk that will tackle a fundamental principle underlying many modern building science questions.  This will be the first part of a short Fall series on Building Science brought to you by the Cornish NH Energy Committee. \nFollow along as Nate Gusakov uncovers the source of water damage in buildings.\nLearn about mistakes made in sealing and insulating homes that result in condensation build-up\, serious water leakage and possible mold issues.\nFind out about building envelope failures.\nGain a better understanding of best practices in building tightness that will prevent these moisture problems. \nNate Gusakov is a building envelope expert and the owner of Green Mountain Enclosure Consulting.  He performs a variety of services including residential and commercial whole-building airtightness testing; qualitative thermal imaging; envelope failure forensics; existing building envelope assessments; and building science teaching and presentations. \nNate is also a lifelong Vermonter\, ethical hunter\, musician and carpenter.  He sits on the Board of Directors for the Vermont Green Building Network and is a voting member of ASTM Technical Committee E06 (Performance of Buildings). \nContact Joanna Sharf with any questions.
